Biography
Dr.
Higuchi is a native of Japan, and started
studying piano in the Suzuki method when
she was four years old. She came to the
U.S. in 1995, and excelled in
performance by winning many awards and
competitions, including the NC Music
Teacher's College Piano Auditions, and
competing as a finalist at the National
Convention of MTNA in 2001. She was also
declared the winner of concerto competition
at the University of Michigan in 2002.
Dr. Higuchi received a Bachelor’s degree in
Music from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill, and a Master's degree in
Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the
University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, from
where she also obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts in
Piano Pedagogy and Performance.

Dr.
Higuchi has been active as a piano teacher,
and she is currently teaching as a
full-time faculty at the University of
Michigan Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program.
She has presented her pedagogical ideas
at several conferences, including the
Music
Teachers National Association (Kansas City,
2003; Denver, 2008) and the
National Conference on
Keyboard Pedagogy (Chicago, 2007).
As
a supporter of outreach program, Dr.
Higuchi has performed and spoken about
music in various venues, conferences, and
recitals. Her outreach program activities
range from, but not limited to,
participation at the University of Michigan
Hospital "Gifts of Art" Program to the
organization of
UNICEF Tsunami Disaster Relief Benefit
Concert as co-president of the MTNA/MMTA
Student Chapter.
